Jon Ryan Schaffer

Schaffer was among the rioters who sprayed United States Capitol Police officers
with “bear spray,” a form of capsaicin pepper spray sold by many outdoors retailers, as part of
their efforts to push the officers back inside the Capitol and breach the Capitol Building
themselves.  He wore a blue hooded sweatshirt under a tactical vest with
a baseball cap that reads “Oath Keepers Lifetime Member.”

Case Status

Arrested 1/17/21 in Noblesville, Indiana. Plead guilty to to Counts 1 and 2 on 4/16/21. He was released on personal recognizance on 4/16/21. Final presentence investigation due by 2/6/2024. Sentencing occurs on 2/20/24 at 2pm in Courtroom 10.
