Christopher Worrell

Although Christopher Worrell denied entering the Capitol, he assault a line of law enforcement officers with pepper spray gel outside the U.S. Capitol building during the riot in Washington D.C. on Jan. 6, according to the prosecution.  Worrell remains detained, however his defense states that because of his past medical history, he is not only at high risk for Covid but also being deprived of his daily medical treatment regiment.

Case Status

Arrested on 3/12/2021. Indicted 4/9/21 and arraigned 4/15/21 where he pleaded not guilty to all counts. During a hearing on 10/13/21, the DC Department of Corrections director and DC jail warden appeared. The judge determined they were in contempt of court for failure to follow a court order (See Document #106 below.) Another hearing was held on 11/3/21 with the DC Department of Corrections present. Worrell was ordered released w/ GPS monitoring. On 6/1/22, Superseding Indictment with Worrell AND Daniel Scott was filed. His bench trial began on 4/27/23. On 5/12/23, he was found guilty on counts 1,2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 13. On 1/4/24, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison, followed by 6 months of probation. In addition, he was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution and $610 in special assessments.

Chris had cancer and was denied specific medication and treatment while in prison. This attracted the judge's attention, and the DC Department of Corrections was held in Contempt of Court. According to court document #126 above, Worrell's release was subject to home confinement and GPS monitoring. He could not access the Internet, email, or social media, with the exception of communication with his lawyer.
