Jerod Wade Hughes

Jerod Hughes entered the Capitol through a broken window shortly after it was forced open. He was among the first ten protesters to enter.

After coming inside, he kicked open the doors so a swarm of protesters began entering. Instead of engaging with those individuals, he and his brother Joshua went to the Senate floor. Along the way, they stopped and pursued Officer Eugene Goodman, who was involved in an altercation with protester Douglas Jensen. Hughes and his brother later entered the Senate area with two others. Once again, they were among the first to do so.

Case Status

Hughes was arrested on 2/1/21. He pleaded not guilty to all counts on 3/25/21. Bond was modified on 4/7/21, released in High Intensity Supervision Program. Hughes plead guilty to count 2 on 8/25/22. On 1/6/23, he was sentenced to 46 months of incarceration followed by 36 months of probation. In addition, he was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment and restitution in the amount of $2,000.
