Craig Michael Bingert

Video footage shows Bingert was present at the Capitol on Jan. 6th. He and others in the crowd shoved a barrier into police officers and lifted it to break through the police line. After the crowd is tear gassed, he is seen with others waving an American flag and chanting.

Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting (1) Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers (2) Civil Disorder (3) Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds (4) Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds (5) Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds (6) Obstructing, or Impeding Passage Through or Within, the Grounds or Any of the Capitol Buildings (7) Engaging in an Act of Physical Violence in the Grounds or Any of the Capitol Buildings (8)

Case Status

Bingert was arrested on 1/18/21 after his lawyer contacted the FBI on his behalf and Bingert agreed to turn himself in. Conditions of release were set on 02/12/2021. Entered a plea of not guilty to all counts on 2/12/21 and on 8/5/21. During a bench trial on 5/24/23, Bingert was found guilty of counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8.On 7/5/23, sentencing for defendants Bingert and Sturgeon was reset for 9/25/2023 at 4:30 PM in Courtroom 15 (in person) before Judge Royce C. Lamberth.
