Christopher Ray Grider

A Waco media station interviewed Grider, who admitted being inside the building near Ashli Babbitt, a woman who was shot outside the speaker’s lobby. Grider allegedly attempted to open the House Chamber doors and stopped after hearing the gunshot which killed her.

Civil Disorder (1) Obstruction of an Official Proceeding (2) Destruction of Government Property (3) Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds (4) Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds (5) Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds (6) Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building (7) Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings (8) Parading, Demonstrating ,or Picketing in a Capitol Building (9)

Case Status

Grider was arrested on 1/21. He pleaded not guilty to counts 1-7 on 2/22/2021. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson ordered the release of Mr. Grider on conditions of release on February 22, 2021 (Per #81: Unopposed MOTION to Travel by CHRISTOPHER RAY GRIDER.) On 04/08/2022, Grider waived his right to a speedy trial. Superseding indictment issued 6/1/22. Grider was found guilty of counts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 during a bench trial on 12/21/22. He then plead guilty to counts 4 and 9. On 5/23/23, he was sentenced to 83 months in prison, 36 months of probation, and $405 in special assessemnts.
