Bryan Betancur

Betancur, a previous offender, told his probation officer he was present at the Capitol on Jan. 6th. He was preauthorized to be in the District of Columbia. While he posted remarks on social media, it doesn’t appear that he engaged in violent activities.

Please keep in mind that in the United States, every citizen charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds (1) Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds (2) Entering and Remaining in Certain Rooms in the Capitol Building (3) Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building or Grounds; Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building (4)

Case Status

Betancur was arrested on 1/17/21 and released 01/29/ per Conditions of Release (#7). He plead not guilty to all counts on 1/29. During a plea agreement hearing held on 5/5/2022, he plead guilty to count 1. Sentencing occurred on 8/4 and Betancur was sentenced to 4 months incarceration followed by supervised release. His progress hearing occurred on 3/31/23.
